Instructor: Ann Swan, U.K
Ann Swan works primarily in graphite and colored pencil, and
is well known for her exquisitely fine detail, vibrant colors and strong
contemporary style. She champions the underdog in the plant world, drawing our
attention to Brussels sprouts or beetroots, feeling they are just as beautiful
as the iris or tulip. She is passionate about colored pencils, believing they
are easy to master, forgiving and accessible so that even a complete beginner
can quickly produce work of quality.
Ann
Swan began exhibiting in 1990 and now shows her work worldwide. Exhibitions
include The Royal Botanic Gardens at Kew and the Hunt Institute in Pittsburgh. She
has won four Gold Medals from the Royal Horticulture Society and several awards
form UKCPS (Colored Pencil Society of the United Kingdom) and SBA (Society of
Botanical Artists). She is a member of the RHS Picture Committee. Her work is
represented in the prestigious Shirley Sherwood Collection and features in many
private collections around the world. Ann's recent book “Botanical Painting
with Coloured Pencils” is already in its second print run and has been very
well received both in the United Kingdom and in the U.S., where it is published
as “Botanical Portraits with Colored Pencils.”

Botanical Models Workshop
It is December and a live
penstemon is not a prospect. Simple and effective, botanical models can bridge
the gap between photographs and reality when a living subject is not available.
Photographs provide necessary information, but can seriously impact the
three-dimensionality of the final image. White models allow an artist to see
the reality of form and function without the interference of local color. Learn
to make your own quick or permanent models, from white paper, white paper clay,
film and plastic clay to enhance your art. Fee:
$85 member, $105 non-member. No prerequisites.
